Today's Story

What happened

Clean sources are supplying 36.1% of India's electricity right now, against 60.9% from thermal, with demand at 239 GW. Today's peak clean share so far is 5.3 points above yesterday's peak.

Why it happened

Renewable output is holding steady for now — solar and wind track the sun, so clean share moves in a curve through the day, not a flat number. Thermal — coal and lignite combined — keeps running as the grid's baseload, while hydro at 27.2 GW is what operators lean on to smooth the swings in between.

What to watch next

Demand typically peaks around 3:30 PM, the moment the grid leans hardest on thermal — watch whether clean share holds through that window.
